We are delighted to announce the participation of MARY SIBANDE in the exhibition ENGAGÉES at the Villa Datris Foundation! On view from 05.17.25 to 11.02.25, Mary Sibande’s iconic work “Wish You Were Here”, on loan from the collection, highlights essential and universal issues.

In 2025, the Villa Datris Foundation presents ENGAGÉES, an exhibition featuring the work of 64 international artists. These feminist, ecofeminist and activist artists explore the major themes of our time: the defense of human rights, the fight against racism, and the freedom to control one’s own body. Through their commitment, they reaffirm the importance of essential struggles.

The exhibition highlights the historical invisibilization of women artists, long dominated by patriarchal societies and excluded from art history. It was only in the 60s, with the social and feminist movements, that they began to gain recognition, both as artists and as women. This legacy continues to inspire today’s generations, who enrich these struggles with strong, striking contemporary creations.

ENGAGÉES invites us to reflect on both the need to preserve acquired rights and the many battles still to be fought.
