In 2026, the Mémorial de Caen presents (De)colonisations: African artists interrogate History, bringing together nearly forty artists from Africa and the diaspora through approximately sixty artworks. The exhibition offers a plural and contemporary reading of colonial histories and their ongoing resonances in today’s world.

Through painting, installation, photography, and video, the participating artists question dominant historical narratives, explore issues of memory, identity, and transmission, and open up new perspectives on fragmented or overlooked histories.

Within this context, Auditorium Cheikh Anta Diop, Dakar by Cheikh Ndiaye explores spaces of knowledge and sites of memory. Inspired by the University of the same name in Dakar, the work evokes a place deeply embedded in intellectual and political history, shaped by postcolonial dynamics.

The exhibition invites viewers to critically reflect on the legacies of the past while opening up sensitive perspectives on contemporary issues related to history, memory, and their transmission.

« (Dé)colonisations : des artistes africains interrogent l’Histoire », exhibition at the Caen Memorial, May 20–November 11, 2026.
