From October 22, 2023 to March 3, 2024 discover the exhibition : “Cooking Cleaning Caring

Care work in the Arts since 1960 “

at the Josef Albers Museum in Bottrop, Germany.

This exhibition, conceived in collaboration with researchers from the Art History Department at Ruhr University Bochum (RUB), presents a selection of works closely linked to the notion of Care.

Since the feminist movements of the 1970s and the various political movements, many artists have engaged in an artistic approach that questions and denounces working conditions in domestic work and personal care.

This exhibition highlights the work of this first generation of women artists from around the world: Mierle Laderman Ukeles (b. 1939, USA), Chantal Akerman (1950-2015, Belgium/France), Anna Daučíková (b. 1950, Slovakia), Sandra Eleta (b. 1942, Panama), Valie Export (b. 1940, Austria)… but also the work of more recent artists such as Lorna Simpson (b. 1960, USA), Natalia Iguiñiz (b. 1973, Peru), Mika Rottenberg (b. 1976, Argentina) and Mary Sibande (b. 1982, South Africa).

On this occasion, the Gervanne + Matthias Leridon Collection is pleased to lend “They Don’t Make Them Like They Used to” 2008 by South African artist Mary Sibande.
